NRS, or Northwest River Supply, was founded in 1972 by Bill Parks in Moscow, Idaho. Started from his garage, NRS has evolved into one of the most well known brands in watersports today. In 2014, Bill helped finance a deal to sell NRS to his employees. He found that having his 100 member strong team as owners increased performance, productivity and great business decisions. "Every NRS employee-owner is personally responsible for the company’s performance, from customer service to dealer support to product development and quality control."
Bill Parks sadly passed this year, but his legacy will continue on. The NRS name has stood for rugged, reliable kayaking equipment built to the standards of professional outfitters and guides, with quality and material that lasts. From manufacturing boater dry bags in 1977 to the launch of their new line of Gore-Tex Pro dry suits and dry tops, NRS has continued to shine. From quality rafts to comfortable PFDs to paddler inspired clothing, NRS manufacturers the gear you need to maximize safe fun on the water.
Most of us have been using NRS dry bags for years. Just about every kayaker I've paddled with has several NRS Tuff Sacks, color coded for ease of use, or the newer Dri-Stow or MightyLight so you can see inside. And almost every rafter or multi-day adventurer has a well worn Bill's Bag. It's a brand you know and trust for hauling your gear.
NRS lifejackets have been a staple of the boater scene. Whitewater boaters gravitate to the Ninja PFD or the Zen Rescue Lifejacket. Standup Paddleboarders love the NRS Zephyr Inflatable Lifejacket. Recreational boaters love the Vista, the Clearwater or the Oso. Rafters prefer the Big Water V or the Big Water Guide PFD. Kayak anglers love the Chinook, Shenook, and the Raku Fishing lifejackets while sea kayakers brag about the pockets on the Chinook OS, the Odyssey, and the cVest. And if you're a rescue professional, then the NRS Rapid Responder Lifejacket is your go-to PFD for on-the-water rescues.
Another staple in boaters' gear bags are NRS water shoes. Whether you prefer low shoes, ankle booties, or tall waders, NRS offers a shoe for you. When you need a shoe for traction on slick rocks look no further than the Kickers or the Kinetics. Want a bit more coverage when stepping into the water? Check out the Men's or Women's Paddle Wetshoes. Are you a rescue professional or river guide? You'll love the NRS Storm Water Boots, the Workboot Water Shoes or the ATB Water Shoes. They provide protection for your feet so you can stay focused on the job at hand. And when you know you've got some muddy launches ahead of you you'll love the NRS Boundary Neoprene Water Boots. These calf tall boots are perfect for deeper launches or sucking sand.
Whether you need layers for warmth or outerwear to keep you dry, NRS has the perfect paddling apparel for you. From dry suits, dry tops, paddling jackets or paddling pants, there is exactly what you need from NRS. From wetsuits to thin, flexible, and warm HydroSkin you can mix and match your clothing to keep you comfortable in any weather. NRS has designed the perfect boating clothing for all seasons so you are always ready for your next adventure.
Designed by boaters and loved by professional paddlers and novices alike, when you purchase gear by NRS know that you are buying tried and trusted water gear. You'll soon see why we love NRS! Happy paddling!
