The Cadence by Stohlquist is a great PFD that checks all the boxes, comfort being number 1, with great features such as thin back, their Wrapture design, enough pockets and a bonus pocket on the front for your phone (in a dry bag), and the forgotten grab handle on the back of the PFD to aid in pulling you up and aboard your watercraft. I feel as though this PFD is a ‘sleeper’ in the Stohlquist lineup of PFD’s with very few mentions, reviews and limited online presence.
The Cadence has eight straps for custom adjustment, notably two in the front that pulldown to prevent the pfd from riding up. The straps on the Cadence are 1 1/2” wide compared to 1” wide straps on other PFD’s I’ve tried. The wider straps help to hold the PFD to the body, which aids in comfort .
Purchased the Cadence and a few other Stohlquist PFD’s to try on, as there are no Stohlquist dealers within a few hundred miles. Of all the PFD’s tried, the Cadence was the most comfortable sitting in and on the various kayaks I own.
To date the Stohlquist Cadence hasn’t let me down. Comfort and no ride-up while paddling. Its thin back works great with the back band.
I’ll update this review after practicing self and assisted rescues to see if Stohlquist’s strapping system really prevents pfd rideup. My other paddling pfd has horrendous ride up.

My spouse and I are novice paddlers, but we decided to start with good gear and this a PFD seems well-built and is comfortable.
