For years, I used a home-made tow system, with a cow tail connected to about 18' of floating line. It worked just fine, but it was always awkward trying to stow the line in my life vest, especially once I upgraded to a model that lacked side pockets. I was using my hand warmer pouch for the purpose - but then, lost the ability to stick my hands in there, stuff as it was with the the bundled line. This new system is ingenious! The integrated cow tail provides a short tow when warranted, and opening a quick release clip allows about 17' of webbing to trail out, for a longer tow. But when not in use, it all stows into the integrated pouch, neat and out of the way, but ready to deploy in an instant. And I get my hand warmer pouch back!

Towing can be tricky, especially with novice kayakers or even first timers. I absolutely love this system when guiding. It meshes well with my PFD and comes up under my arm clipping to the shoulder strap. This makes a very quick system to deploy and you genuinely look much more out together without fumbling with other designs. Two flaws though: 1. The tooth on the carabiner. Pretty aggressive and shouldn't be there in the first place. Had to file it down flush to get it where I wanted. 2: The loop on the webbing that attaches to the carabiner needs to be secured. If not it could potentially slip off. An o-ring or rubber band will keep it in place.
