The Katadyn is a simple filter that does so much more than the others without the added cost of maintenence. I run the filtered water through activated charcoal before I use it because these filters do not filter out chlorine. I live in the country and the water quality is unpredictable. The Katadyn will allow me to have filtered and clean water in even the worse case scenario. I have access to pond, and creek water if the main line is ever compromised. I feel secure with this filter in my home.
