    Probably OK if it's not

Probably OK if it's not your everyday pfd. This pfd was not comfortable. Even with adjustable side straps, it compressed my chest. Seated in a kayak, the pfd was pushed up to the point where it hit my chin. If you're considering this, you'll want to try it on first.

    No swims yet

This high float jacket is for everything except a kayak. It interferes with the cockpit rim. I paddle a SOAR S10 canoe style inflatable. It fits good and very adjustable. The jacket provides as much flotation as one can wear, giving me confidence in class 3 and 4 whitewater streams. The pockets are very handy too, with secure zipper and hand warmer pockets. Good product.

    NRS Big Water Guide Lifejacket

I had originally bought the Kahuna PFD and found that because of my body shape it would ride up when tested for fit. The Kahuna has the same floatation but does not have the capability to add leg straps like the Big Water Guide. I got the straps direct from NRS. Surprisingly when I tried on the Big Water Guide it did not ride up, but I added the straps anyway. The floatation pads are much thicker than the usual type III PFD but that is expected. The PFD did not hamper paddling. I didn't fall out of the raft yesterday so I can't tell you how much more I would have floated. With about 6 pounds more floatation it should keep anyone higher in the water. The name is a bit deceiving as you would think with the word "Guide" In it's name it would have all the extra bells and whistles that come with a guide PFD. I didn't want all that "extra" attachments so this was perfect for me. If you want or need the extra floatation this PFD provides and the security of knowing you can attach leg straps to it, Than buy it!
