I have another brand that somewhat shares this design for the most part including the neck closure and waist draw string, but the other is not Gore-tex and it is stiff, crinkly, and makes me sweat badly. I used this Kokatat jacket for the first time last weekend in the 40's with just a wool under shirt. This jacket breathes well, yet keeps most of the water from dripping down the neck and cuffs with the soft lined velcro closures. It is so light and supple you hardly know you have it on. It pairs great with the Kokatat Gore-Tex Tempest Pants. I just walked into the icy water, jumped on my surfski and took off. It felt like I was wearing pajamas. I love ALL my Kokatat stuff. If you can afford Kokatat Gore-Tex, it will let you forget the elements and better enjoy your outdoor time. For the really cold and/or windy days, I will probably switch to my full dry suit, but when there is a high probability of staying on top of the boat, you cannot beat the comfort of this jacket paired with a good pant.

Really nice paddling jacket. I've only had it out once, but it was a 5 hour paddle. I'm very impressed by the quality of the seals and overall comfort. Water beaded up and ran right off. Super-light and easy to put on/take off while in the boat. This is a replacement for a much-loved Patagonia paddling jacket that is no longer available... have to say, Kokotat got the details of this down much better than Patagonia. Especially like the zippered pocket on the sleeve which remains accessible when wearing a PFD. Looking forward to many more trips with this.
