    I just received the paddle

I just received the paddle and the weather hasn't allowed me to use it yet but look forward to using it in the spring. The purchasing process was easy and shipping was very quick.

    Awesome paddle! Used it on

Awesome paddle! Used it on the Kennebec river recently with my IK and it performed great. Very lightweight with very little flex. Love that it takes apart for transport and storage.

took a little getting used to...

Firstly the cons: OK, this may sound picky, but I find the strange 'directional texture/ spiral' on the shaft incredibly annoying. Your hand seems to slide along it easily in one direction, and grip if you slide the opposite way, almost like fish scales. Another thing that I didn't love, was the subtle ovalization of both halves of the shaft. My gripe there is I prefer a more pronounced oval on the right and a perfectly round shaft on the left. Granted, that's what I've grown accustomed to, and I may just need to acclimate. I've put a smooth vinyl shrink tube on the left, and X-tube shrink wrap on the right over a 'grip locator' and those issues are for the most part eliminated. Now the pros: This might sound like a gripe, but bear with me... The paddle for quite some time felt odd to me. I just did not feel It was pushing as much water as an other comparable blade size paddle that I own (and not a cheap chain store paddle). It seemed like it wasn't taking a bite quite as aggressively. Finally I decided to go out with 3 paddles and a very accurate GPS, and the results were not what I expected. With the Manta Ray, I was consistently getting top speeds of .2 MPH or more over my best efforts with my other 'go to' paddle. What was more surprising, was the average margin between that 2nd paddle and the 3rd, which was a piece of junk, were less than .2 MPH! Ouch! Well, there it was, my GPS had neither a favorite or an agenda. Truth be told, most of that 'odd feeling' was likely just me adjusting to the dihedral blade, and how smooth and it is. To sum it up, overall it's a great paddle, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!
