I have the J racks and use those for long car rides to the river, which usually means at least 4 hours RT. But it's a pain getting my heavy creek boat on them. These top deck racks are simple. I attach a boat roller to the back windshield of my car and roll the boat right on these Thule Roof Racks. I made the mistake once of just putting a boat flat on the cross bars, and with the hot sun it left a crease in the bow and stern. These Thule racks are simple and they work, it was a necessary purchase.
