When the ice is too lean for screws, bolts are nonexistent, and trad gear just won't cut it, the Black Diamond Spectre Ice Piton is your saving grace. Critical protection for thin ice and mixed lines, the Spectre can be driven into frozen turf, slotted in pick placements or wedged in icy cracks.

    Works & Makes Me Happy

This thing is awesome - mostly used it to project what we thought was a First Ascent of an M9/WI6...turns out it was't a FA but still an adventure for me. This thing was ideal to protect a weird, delicate section of frozen dirt/choss/moss that was just weird to move around and not awesome to take an uprotected fall passing. Like many placements in this style of climbing I don't know if it would have held a mondo whipper but I loved being able to clip this piece on the actual Red Point (still thinking we were getting an FA). In addition to the climb being freed a decade ago I got to the FINAL pro at the top, our ice anchor and one of the biners was upside down...my fingers were numb and I couldn't get that thing clipped...so, I failed. LOL
