Petzl can trace is origins to the 1930s when Ferdinand Petzl and Pierre Chevalier began designing and developing tools for the little-known sport of caving. Their first major breakthrough came in 1943 when they successfully designed and tested the first nylon rope to replace caving ladders. Later, Petzl would make advances in harness and headlamp design. Today, Petzl is a global company producing hundreds of products for climbers, cavers, work-at-height and rescue professionals.
