Results:
The Surf Off in Pacific City was one of the most laid back events
of the Oregon Cup. As the crowd hung out on the beach, competitors
hit the surf in heats of 6 - 7 people. The swells changed throughout
the day, with an average seven foot swell, occasionally interupted
by at 10 foot set.
Competitors were judged with a score
from 1 - 10. There was not a technical scoring system, like there
is in rodeo events. Whoever had the best ride won. Smoothness, ability
to execute maunvers in the green of the wave, and paddling out through
the surf were factors in the scoring.
Keith Liles, paddling a Dagger Centrifuge,
took first place in the pros with some sweet rides.
