Intro
The Watauga River flows through the High Country of North Carolina
just West of Boone, NC. The gorge features five miles of Class
IV-V rapids culminating in the 17 foot Watauga Falls, located
on the North Carolina and Tennessee border. Hydro Rapid, the hardest
Class V cataract in the gorge, gains its reputation from the near
terminal hydraulic located at the bottom of the rapid. It is here
that the Hydro Freestyle Competition commenced. Hardcore seems
to be the most suitable adjective to describe this event. Competitors
are vying for a $1,000 prize.
