Intro
Paddlers are competing for a $5,000 purse in one the first freestyle
events of the season. You could imagine what kind of action that
type of money is generating. The rodeo circus debuted with the
Dagger Subarus, the Perception RV, and the hundreds of others
camping along the river in their trucks and vehicles. Old and
new faces alike came to compete on the scene. All with hopes of
starting the season with a win underneath their belt and money
in thier pocket.
Local Pro Kayakers like Kelly and
Keith Liles, Clay Wright and Jimmy Blakeney and soon to be Erica
Blakeney had home court advantage, practicing at Rock Island over
the winter. Other pros from the around the nation like Jay Kincaid,
OR and Jason Bates, OR came for a shot at the gold. Not here were
some of our favorites like Eric Southwick and Tanya Shuman.
The flow was perfect with a 3 meter
foam pile with fast green shoulders. All of the newest variety
moves were executed, in either direction, on command. With the
progression of our scoring system, developed by the USFKA, competitors
were striving for elevated and aerial green moves. This was a
great venue to display aerial and vertical blunt moves to the
viewing public.
