Kayak Stewardship
At Outdoorplay we are committed to making
a difference in the natural spaces we all enjoy. We do this by partnering
with and supporting a variety of world-class organizations.
Our Kayak Stewardship Priorities
• Encourage the active conservation of nature with a focus on
the waterways we kayak
• Promote the responsible use and enjoyment of the outdoors
• Enhance the natural world and our communities through responsible business.
• Foster opportunities to increase participation in human-powered
outdoor recreation
ACA
- www.americancanoe.org
Founded in 1880, The American Canoe Association (ACA) is a national
nonprofit organization serving the broader paddling kayak public by
providing education related to all aspects of kayaking; stewardship
support to help protect paddling environments; and sanctioning of kayak
programs and events to promote paddlesport recreation.
American
Whitewater - www.americanwhitewater.org
Founded in 1954, American Whitewater is a national non-profit organization
with a mission to conserve and restore America’s whitewater kayak
resources and to enhance opportunities to enjoy them safely. This includes
their access program that focuses on protecting navigability on our
nation’s waterways and acquisition of lands that provide public
access to the rivers kayakers paddle.
American
Rivers - www.americanrivers.org
Founded in 1973, American Rivers is one of the nation’s leading
river conservation organizations. Their mission is to protect and restore
rivers for the benefit of people, wildlife and nature. From restoration
and protection projects to standing up for clean water and river-friendly
laws and policies in Washington DC, American Rivers work every day to
protect the rivers you love and kayak on.
Breast
Cancer Fund - www.breastcancerfund.org
The Breast Cancer Fund is one of the leading national organizations
focused on identifying the environmental causes of breast cancer and
preventing the disease. We are proud to work with Ocean Kayak to support
this amazing group. One percent of gross sales from the women's
Venus 11 kayak is donated to the Breast Cancer Fund.
Friends
Of The River - www.friendsoftheriver.org
Friends of the River is nationally recognized as an authority on the
adverse impacts of dams on rivers and ecosystems and is the most effective
grassroots organization working on behalf of rivers. They have helped
create many watershed-based citizens' groups and also coordinate or
participate in several major statewide and national campaigns and coalitions.
First
Descents - www.firstdescents.org
First Descents was founded in 2001 by professional kayaker Brad Ludden
to promote emotional, psychological and physical healing for young adults
with cancer through kayaking, whitewater rafting, and other outdoor
adventure sports. We’re proud to have supported their effort over
the years.
