By leaps and bounds, the best playboating paddle out there. The foam core really makes the paddle light and easy to transiton from one move to the next. Well worth every cent!
I am 6'4, 230lbs. and I'm usually VERY hard on gear. I have been paddling the Waterstick Zen and an ATX before that. I felt like a pro. Every stroke was smooth, precise, and mindlessly easy. I actually had to force myself to concentrate on my strokes so I could write the review. Every stroke felt incredibly natural...as if the blades were a natural extension of my arm. My strokes felt like dexterous art. (I can't say that they looked like dexterous art, though). There was plenty of power when I needed it (both forward and reverse strokes). Most importantly, my shoulders didn't ache as I had suspected they would. Although this stick is stiff, I'm guessing that the super-light swing weight helps to reduce the stresses on the shoulders usually found with using stiff sticks. The super-light swing weight, the smoothness of compound strokes, clean blade entries and exits made this paddle an absolute treasure to paddle. I can't recommend this paddle enough. This is one of the best paddles that I have ever used.
I've been using the Bent shaft DD for about 3 years for playboating and river-running. I'm very happy with it and can not come up with a single negative (except that they're pricey).
I purchased the Double Diamond early last summer after having some trouble with another brand's carbon fiber blades. I've used the paddle on the Potomac, Gauley, Yough, Ocoee, Ottawa, Lachine, and Chattooga. At 5'6", my hands are on the small side, and I went with the recommendation from a pro to try the small shaft. I immediately found the shaft perfect for my hands, easy to hold onto. While smaller than what I was used to, it feels great. With the solid grip, I was more confident in the playholes and paddling big water. The blades have been solid for both river running and playing in holes. Super grip on the water with each stroke, and easy release as it glides right in and out. My only regret is not trying this paddle sooner. Overall, an excellent paddle. Feels super strong. Excellent grip on the water. Easy to maneuver in a hole. Easy to adjust strokes in big or technical water.
