Fill out the return form on the back of the invoice you received and send it with the product. Petzl Tikka 2 Core Rechargeable Headlamp - The Tikka 2 Core Rechargeable Headlamp by Petzl offers great versatility with three lighting modes accessed by a simple electronic push-button switch. In maximum mode the four LEDs deliver 35 lumens of light, enough to see almost 30 meters! The economic mode optimizes battery life and provides a long burn-time. The CORE Lithium Ion Polymer battery can be recharged many times, saving almost 900 batteries over time. I recently had the pleasure of trying out the new Petzl CORE rechargeable battery in a TIKKA headlamp while doing some climbing in Vermont.While other companies, like Black Diamond, have been using rechargeable battery packs for a couple years, Petzl takes it to the next level with this one.
The OS (operating system) that comes with the CORE allows you to adjust the headlamp for better battery performance or light intensity, and it’s super easy to do. There’s a nifty graph for the Max and Economic levels that allows you to tweak light output vs. burn time. For example, you might want to have low intensity but a long battery life for reading the Britney Spears biography in your bivouac. Or, you might want medium-high output with a not as long battery time for some after-work ice climbing.
There are a lot of cool things that you can do with the OS. First, you can adjust the output to be regulated (same output until the battery dies) or non-regulated (simulates a battery, so the light output decreases as the battery runs out). You can also test the settings on your headlamp while it’s plugged into your computer, which means you can see the light intensity change before your eyes.
But, the coolest feature of all is that the CORE battery can be recharged 300 times, replacing 900 AAA disposables over its lifetime. No more fishing for batteries in your pack or forgetting them in your glove box. And, most importantly, many fewer batteries will end up in the landfill. I hope that other headlamp manufacturers follow suit and that rechargeable batteries like the CORE become industry standard.
