I've used mine for about two months, a couple times a week for close-by hauling. I love that I can leave the board on the truck overnight and have it locked down. However......one of the straps no longer stays secure. With a little force is slides out. The design of the rack doesn't let you cinch down the straps super tight, but they do a good job keeping the board secure. But not now. It appears that the strap has worn smooth and/or the cam spring is too weak. Whatever, I have one strap that now doesn't hold the board at all. really want this system to work. I love the idea, but I'm not thrilled with the execution.
I haven't had any problems. I've loaded two very large race boards and drove 70mph to VA beach from Wilmington, NC. Everything held. I drive around everywhere and never take them off my Jeep, even when empty, nothing comes off. I use them every single day. Easier to load when wet if you slide your board on, but I don't have problems dry either. I will NEVER go back to straps again, just takes too long.
I'm a 5'1" girl and carry two 12' boards on my Jeep Liberty. The SUP taxi made it easy for me to cinch and lock down my boards. I had no problems adjusting the width and the boards sit comfortable in the saddle. I feel they are secure and have confidence in this product. I also use front hood tie down lashings to assist with wind stability and epoxy to keep the saddle rubber from coming off. Since then I've had no problems. The only suggestion I would make is to add a side lift assist like the Thule 798XT Hullavator. It makes the boards approx. 7ft high on my stock Jeep and I have to use a step ladder to put the boards up there. My husband is 6'1" and even has to use effort to get the 2nd board on.
The SUP taxi is a great product for a rack/strap system. It is so easy to load the board, toss the strap over, close the clasp and lock, then you can easily tuck away the additional material into the rack - brilliant. So much faster than using a regular strap. Plus, I have a large sunroof on my car and always worried that I would drop the metal clasp and shatter the glass. No risk of that with this product. My only complaint is that it did not take long to lose one of the small grey pads on the cradle - it blew off while driving without a board on the top.[...] If you have one of these racks, or are going to buy one soon, a simple wrap of electrical tape should keep the pads in place. Also, an earlier review mentioned that there is no steel core in the strap, but mine does have a steel core.
