I have this jacket with and without the hood. Hoody is the way to go. This jacket is the bomb! Warm, lightweight, useful for layering or really warm as the outer jacket. It's great for all situations!!!! The only reason it is not rated five stars is because the threads pull out all over the jacket. This has happened to all my friends' jackets as well. Hopefully this can be remedied easily bcuz it needs to be fixed.

I actually have this jacket in the full zip and the pullover and I like both for different reasons.
The full zip has a more fitted flattering look, but still has room for layers. The pullover is boxier, and I get annoyed that it has no hand pockets (tho, that does make it slimmer fitting).
I've worn both jackets in temps ranging from mid-60s (with just a T-shirt and shorts) to upper-20s and low 30s (with wool shirt and down vest) without feeling too warm or bulky. I LOVE it. I wear it for ALL activities. I generally refuse to wear real winter coats because they're often so bulky.
I've noticed the fraying threads as well, but Patagonia has a great repair policy that I will probably use eventually.

Thin and lightweight but still warm and cozy. I'm 5 foot 5 inches and big chested, the small fit perfectly. Great for around town warmth or light hiking. In snow or real cold, it would be best as an insulation layer.
