H2No blocks wind and water on the outside while allowing water vapor generated by your body to escape – keeping you warm, dry and comfortable. The center zipper has exterior and interior storm flaps, while pit zips add ventilation options. The hood has a laminated visor, then rolls down and stows away when not needed. I picked up the M's Torrentshell as a light to mid weight protection against heavy wind and rain. I have a separate GoreTex Pro shell for extreme and high altitude pursuits but I wanted something more every day. I took the Torrentshell as my emergency rain gear to Newfoundland (Canada) last week where I was spending long days out in isolated areas. It quickly went from emergency gear to everyday protection. It rained, sleeted and even snowed a bit. It precipitated everyday. The wind ripped across the peaks and ridges I was trekking along or perched on for hours. I slogged through thick, nasty and sharp black spruce, over dead fall and in think brush. Most movement was bushwhacking. Everything I went though was absolutely soaked and constantly bushing against me. Temps were in the 30s and 40s. The Torrentshell kept me dry, blocked the wind, and held up under punishing conditions. (Patagonia R4 light or the R1 in other cases kept me warm underneath.) When moving aggressively across the terrain I would unzip the pits for extra venting. This jacket was amazing and it seemed like I was getting the performance of a three layer jacket. It now is in for a washing after this trip so hopefully it will hold up well and continue to perform well. Off the rack this jacket performed superbly.

This jacket is everything I hoped it would be. I was looking for a shell that would eliminate the need to drag around an umbrella. It's lightweight & breathable which is very good in eastern NC where it is very hot & humid in the Spring & Summer. I'm 6' & 190 lbs and a Large fit me perfectly with room for a sweater or fleece vest underneath when cool.
