For First Descents' Paddle Benefit, Presented by Outdoorplay
Over $1500 Raised for Non-Profit Aimed at Impacting Lives of Young Adults
Living with Cancer
Outdoorplay held the First Annual “Paddle Benefit”, an exciting
fundraising effort aimed at supporting non-profit organization First Descents.
In classic Oregon weather, rain poured on the 350 attendees as the determination
and compassion of the participants shone through. $1,500 was raised for
the non-profit.
First Descents is committed to curing young adults of the emotional side
effects of cancer and empowering them to regain control of their lives.
Beneficiaries experience whitewater kayaking and other challenging adventure
sports in a safe, fun and supportive environment.
Participants of the Paddle Benefit were asked to paddle with a kayak
or stand-up paddleboard from Hood River Waterfront Park around Wells Island,
an approximate distance of 3 miles.
Attending the event also included 3 local youth bands OAC (Order and
Chaos), Pink Gravel and SUN (Something Under Nothing) where band members
ranging from the 3rd to 9th grade rocked out in order to raise money for
young adults who are battling cancer. Their support to the cause and commitment
to volunteering their musical talent was very inspiring to the community.
To take part in the Paddle Benefit participants were asked to raise a
minimum of $25. For every $25 raised one raffle ticket was given for the
chance to win a brand-new kayak donated by Outdoorplay. The kayak was
won by Johanna Cazanas, a resident of Stevenson, WA who has been a huge
supporter of the benefit.
Outdoorplay plans to have another event next year so please mark your
calendars and continue to check back with us. We look forward to your
support!
