Excellent choice for steep creeks. This boat can handle ANY navigable whitewater on the planet. A semi displacement hull makes it very easy to roll. It's not quite as easy to turn and doesn't really snap into the eddy's as well as my Pyranha H3. There is enough storage room for moderate whitewater expeditions (up to a week). LL hit a homerun with this design.

I am 53 years old 165 lbs. I consider myself a strong intermediate paddler. Creeks most often paddled now a days... the Top and upper Yough. Been using a CFS on the top for several years now and everything from an Ultrafuge to an RPM to a Remix to a I4 on the upper. I have got to say the Jefe is a great boat. Not as much fun as an RPM or other play boats but at my age this is one sweet boat when water is getting high. The Jefe tracks well, has decent speed, stays on top of the water very well and is super comfortable and forgiving. I have a Re-mix 5.9 and the Jefe is as quick and tracks much better because it stays on top so well. The high bow is easy to point and get to where you need to be. Overall, I would give the Jefe a 9 out of 10 and that is only because it does not play all that well but that is not what it was intended to do anyway. All around great boat for those looking for something stable in pushy water.

I am 6'2" and 195lbs. I have paddled Salto, Embudo, Phat, krompressor, Wave Sport Y. The Jefe is the best creeker I have paddled. The length and volume are perfect for someone my size(I paddled a Salto for years, great boat for low volume stuff but too small for me) The Jefe boofs & rolls easily. The most impressive character of the Jefe is its speed/tracking, yet its bow is still very loose and turns about as fast as any creeker I've paddled. It sits very high in the water and seems very stable to me. I tried moving the seat forward but have since moved it back to the middle. I found with the seat forward the bow looses too much of its turning ability and tracks too much. With it in the middle its perfect for me, still fast with plenty of quick turning and good tracking. I paddle mostly lower volume, steep runs and haven't really used it on anything with huge volume yet. The Jefe lands softly on higher drops and resurfaces quickly. It carves into eddies very nicely and is very predictable when trying to grab a tight eddy or peel out into rough water. The outfitting is excellent except for the backband being too stiff. They fixed the hip pad problem interfering with the backband side ratchet straps on the newer version of the boat, I got the hip pad kit from Liquid Logic and its great and very easy to install, making my boat really comfortable. Overall its a fun, responsive, predictable creeker with great speed and tracking. I haven't found a feature of the boat I don't like.

Home run: green River Narrows.
I've got the original jefe, the middle size.
Height 5'8. 190 lbs: Short and stocky.
This boat is the boss. Period.
It boofs and resurfaces incredibly well but is not so fast that you overshoot eddies or launch pads. The semi displacement hull gives you some edginess from a planing but it doesn't snap into eddies as violently as a burn or karnali.
I'm going to stick with this boat till it breaks!
