Nomad Neoprene Kayak Shoes
The Kokatat Nomad boots are a very light weight mukluk with a waterproof and breathable gaiter. They not only warm your feet with a comfortable neoprene material but protect your calves as well. The neoprene cuff secures a nice fit and is located just below the knee. The boots are built with a glued and blind-stitched seams assuring long term durability in cold waters. There is a nice single handed lacing system offering easy fitting and comfort. The vulcanized toe caps, heel counters and outsoles help protect your feet against the sharp rocks and sticks. It's a perfect water boot for kayaking, canoeing or even fishing in cold water.
The Nomad Water Shoe comes in whole, unisex sizes. We recommend people with half-sized feet order the next full size up. For women order one size smaller. However if your feet run wide, consider choosing your usual shoe size.
I am very pleased with these boots and can't say enough about them. I have been looking for true "waterProof" boots for some years now. I do a lot of kayak fishing and get out of my boat to wade in the water at times. My feet always stay nice and toasty and DRY!
An admittedly expensive booty-with-gaiter that ends up being a superb product, a light weight mukluk-type kayak shoe! I have suffered immersion foot with some long lasting issues from sea-kayaking. If I could go back in time and switch the shoes from the rubber wellington boots to these shoes, my feet would have stayed dry. Having secure, comfortable and dry feet is no small task in a thin and light product. After heavy use I noticed some stretching in rear seams near the heel where the neoprene meets the fabric. To ensure dryness for a long trip, seal up the seams with Aquaseal or something or the sort. This will ensure your feet stay warm and dry! Kokatat makes some of the best kayak gear on the market in my humble opinion. Many dealers will tell you the same. P.S. the shoes tend to run narrow in width. If you have wider feet I highly recommend ordering the next size up. I can wear a 11-12 mens depending on brand but needed to go to a size 13 Nomad to fit.
I am so bummed with these because it sounds like others have had really good luck. I'm a half-sizer and found upsizing made them too big, but when I exchanged for the next size down, the place where the neoprene meets the fabric gaiter part was such that I could not get my foot into the boot. The diameter wasn't wide enough for my ankle to make the 90 degree turn into the boot part, and it was not stretchy at ALL, which is a total bummer because it seemed like the footbed WAS the right size. I really, REALLY want these boots to work and I am not sure if that second pair was defective or if it's just the way Kokatat makes them...but I'm not willing to try a third time. Very disappointed myself...not sure what else I can try that would have the same effect. :(

These only work if your calves are not too big. I ordered a pair for my wife but they didn't fit over her calves. They don't stretch at all. I was sorry I had to send them back. I wish they would have cut them bigger and not worried about being "Stylish."
What am I doing wrong? I've tried on size 10 & 11 & could barely my foot past the seam of upper & boot, and I mean hard pulling over a bare foot...wool socks, no way!
I wear a size 10-11 in shoes and wanting to wear wool socks ordered the Nomads in 11 and 12. As others have stated, I couldn't get my foot in the them. My foot just won't make a 90 degree turn. Although I could get my foot in them, the size 12 was just way too big and came up over my knees. Really bummed as I wanted them to work out. Maybe a good shoe for somebody but not me.

One additional observation. A beautiful Kokatat brochure accompanied the order saying "Made in Arcata CA." When I went to open the shoe box the first thing I see is Made in China. What's the deal with that?

One final clarification on my previous note about Kokatat. I found this on their website which makes me feel better. I do like their products! "Yes, we do source items in Asia. But, only for products that do not have scalable infrastructure here in the US and to support our environmental commitment to Gaia® PVC free flotation foam for all our life vests, available exclusively through our Asian manufacturer."
