After sleeping one night on a Paco Pad, it is hard to imagine using anything else on the river. High-density urethane foam inside a welded industrial-strength PVC pouch offers sleeping and sitting comfort. It’s self-inflating, so simply press the side release buckles to release the straps, and open the valve. The pad will inflate itself. It needs no extra air to make it work and a small puncture from a cactus needle or a valve left open will not affect a successful night of sleeping. The foam is dense and firm, making for a great night’s sleep, and allowing the pad to be rolled up many times without breaking down. Paco Pads also provide extra safety on rafts by padding those hard spots where passengers may hit or get pinched, and provide insulation to coolers. Just leave them unrolled during the day so you can lounge while riding on the boat. This is the feather bed of outdoor camping pads.

I have been using a 4" Silverback Paco pad for years. The Silverback takes all the problems out of sleeping outdoors. Just toss it out, let it inflate itself and off you go to a very comfortable night. This pad rivals a lot of the beds I have slept in over the years. The Silverback does roll up a bit large, so a couple years ago I purchased an El Grande Paco for those trips where I was not rowing or driving (i.e. - space is limited). The El Grande is 3 inches thick and almost as good as the SilverBack. Plus it rolls up a lot tighter to save some space. This is the pad I use on canoe trips or whenever space is limited. I am a long time fan of Paco pads and believe that the SilverBack and El Grande pads are the best ways to insure a comfortable sleep anywhere outside of your home bed.
