Sizing for CambelBak Women's Day Star 18 Hydration Backpack:
Overall, I was very pleased with the Women’s Day Star hydration pack. I am petite (5’ tall) and this pack was short enough to fit comfortably on my back. I purchased it for a strenuous 12.2-mile day hike in the Grand Canyon. The hike lasted 8 hours and the Day Star allowed me to carry everything I needed in a compact, efficient, minimalist way.
For longer walks and for hikes, I want a backpack with a hydration bladder so I can carry my gear and also keep drinking. Women with short torsos will appreciate this design made for them. I can't wear the M.U.L.E. because it laps over my buns. The Day Star is shorter and doesn't have that problem. The shoulder straps are comfortably wide and the sternum strap is positioned correctly for a woman. I am a big fan of the Camelbak 70 oz. bladder. It is the right size for a walk of 12 miles or less. It is easy to refill at faucets and water fountains. I like the large compartment for stuffing in your or other gear jacket once you are warmed up. The smaller organizer pocket is perfect for essentials you want access to. There are loops on the back for attaching small articles.
The Daystar features a superior, truly women specific fit. The harness has a shorter back length and the shoulder straps are comfortably shaped to fit around the bust. Plus, they're set closer at the top to accommodate narrower physiques. An adjustable sternum strap is placed higher (no nipple rub!) while the removable waistbelt curves over the hips. Interestingly, the shoulder straps are adjusted from the bottom - not as easy to tug tight on the fly. Camelbak bladders are reliable and the tube comes with an on/off switch and a bite valve cover to keep it clean. The 2 litre bladder is easy to access from its own zippered compartment, which keeps it cooler.
