Advanced Sport Frame Inflatable Kayak - The Advanced Frame Sport IK is a light-weight and compact version of the popular Advanced Frame IK from Advanced Elements. It sports a large cockpit opening for easy entry and exit. The proven aluminum ribs in the bow and stern provide increased paddling performance in a fun and sporty design. The Advanced Frame Sport IK uses 3 layers of extremely durable materials to resist the chance of puncture. A double layer of material on the bow and stern, and welded-on landing plates increase protection when beaching the kayak. There is plenty of storage above and below deck for extended trips, too. The breathable foam mesh back support of the padded seat sets you up for all day paddling comfort. The best part is that the Advanced Frame Sport sets up in just a few minutes. Simply unfold, inflate, and attach the seat. You'll be on the water in minutes. And this IK is compact enough to take along with you. Keep it in the trunk of your car and paddle whenever you want. Or pack it for your next flight and be able to paddle anywhere. The included carry duffel bag makes storing and transporting easy. With the portability of an inflatable, the Advanced Frame Sport Inflatable Kayak packs a lot of fun anywhere!
We recommend an Advanced Elements Backbone with this inflatable kayak! A Backbone will help with the kayak's tracking and keep you going straight when the wind pick up. When you buy it with the kayak you receive a 15% discount!
The Sport may be right for you if you are looking for a lightweight, super compact, affordable inflatable kayak that is good for traveling, for kids or for easy recreational fun. However, if you are concerned at all with performance, with being able to paddle in different types of water, with tracking or with weight capacity, then the Sport is likely not your kayak. The Sport may be good to take traveling, but if it were me, I would want my traveling inflatable kayak to not only be light weight but also to be versatile enough to handle more types of water. I think I would choose the Advanced Frame over the Sport and deal with the extra ten pounds just to have a more versatile and better performing kayak.
Perfect kayak for me!
This is my first kayak, and it is easy to set up, handle/maneuver and stow. It's a bit tricky to get out of, but it's only my own aging body that is the problem, not the kayak. I am developing better techniques with every outing. My only cons are that there is not much storage for more than a one day outing--but some creative packing and a couple of deck bags may solve that for an overnighter. My kayaking buddy is considerably taller than I am and says the leg/foot room is a bit short, so for a long-legged person, it might be too short. I have considerable experience with quality inflatables, and for the money, this one can't be beat. I've used inflatables that were 2x the price and half the boat! I highly recommend it!
If you plan on milder kayaking activities (lakes, calm rivers, inland waters), prefer the ease of a lighter weight kayak for backpacking or hauling around, feel more comfortable in an open design, or are on a tight budget, the Sport is a great choice and loads of fun.
